About C46400 Naval Brass

Naval Brass is a 60:40 copper zinc alloy to which about 1% of tin has been added to improve the corrosion resistance, particularly to dezincification. The alloy is a two phase alpha-beta brass, hence has reasonably high strength with lower ductility than the single phase 70:30 or alpha brass. It is used for structural applications and for forgings, especially where contact with sea water is likely to induce corrosion. The mechanical properties are almost indistinguishable from those of 60:40 brass C28000, although the tin addition tends to give slightly higher strength. C46400 can be readily hot worked, and can also be cold worked, but not as easily as the single phase alpha brasses.

Chemical Composition

Mechanical Properties According To ASTM B21 (As Per Temper HO2)

High-Quality Alloy for Demanding Applications

C46400 Naval Brass stands out due to its optimal blend of copper and zinc, augmented with a small percentage of tin, which strengthens the alloy against corrosion from seawater and various industrial environments. The bright golden hue makes it not only functional but also aesthetically suitable for visible hardware and fasteners.

Precision Manufacturing and Surface Excellence

Produced using advanced extrusion and drawing techniques, this brass features exceptional dimensional accuracy within ASTM Inch tolerances. The components undergo bright finishing processes to deliver a luminous, smooth surface, enhancing both appearance and resistance to wear, suitable for a variety of mechanical and decorative uses.

FAQ's of C46400 Naval Brass:

Q: How is C46400 Naval Brass processed for optimal performance?

A: C46400 Naval Brass is processed through extrusion and drawing methods, followed by a bright finishing procedure. This combination ensures the material achieves precise dimensions, a smooth surface, and enhanced mechanical properties.

Q: What are the main applications of C46400 Naval Brass in industry?

A: This naval brass grade is widely used in automotive components, builders hardware, consumer fasteners, and industrial plumbing due to its durability, corrosion resistance, and attractive golden finish.

Q: When should I choose C46400 Naval Brass over other brass types?

A: Select C46400 Naval Brass whenever you need excellent strength, resistance to saltwater corrosion, and a robust yet workable material for both mechanical and decorative uses, especially in marine or industrial plumbing projects.

Q: Where can I find manufacturers or suppliers of C46400 Naval Brass in India?

A: Reputable manufacturers and suppliers based in India provide C46400 Naval Brass in various sizes to meet your project requirements. It's advisable to source from established vendors specializing in brass alloys for assured quality.

Q: What benefits does the bright, golden finish of C46400 Naval Brass offer?

A: The bright finish improves resistance to tarnishing and wear, while the golden color makes it aesthetically pleasing for exposed applications in fasteners and hardware.

Q: How should I use C46400 Naval Brass for best results in automotive and plumbing applications?

A: Ensure the correct size and temper are chosen for the intended mechanical workload. The 1/2 hard temper provides a balance between formability and strength, suitable for parts subjected to moderate stress.
